The Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity partners with faculty, staff, and student organizations to share information or provide interactive presentations about undergraduate research and creative activities at NAU. We can come to your classroom, meeting, or event to build awareness around the wide array of research and creative activities in all disciplines and at all levels.
Please at least 5 days prior to your preferred presentation date; we will respond within 48 hours.
What types of presentations can be requested?
Basic overview of OURCA Accordion Closed
A 5-10 minute presentation where participants will learn about how our office supports research at NAU and within the community. This presentation features information on OURCA programming, grants, and how to request more information regarding individual one-on-ones to connect with us further.
Overview of OURCA with specific program highlights Accordion Closed
This 20-30 minute presentation will help participants to learn how to connect with our office through an in-depth dive into our program offerings. Participants will learn how to use several key programs, grants, and other offerings through OURCA and what the deadlines associated with them are. This presentation is recommended for an enhanced understanding of how students can get started in research or deepen their connection for those already involved in research. Funding sources, networking opportunities, and more will be shared in this presentation.
Registering for the undergraduate symposium Accordion Closed
Participants will learn how to register for the annual Undergraduate Symposium in this 20 minute presentation as well as what is required for presenting at the event. Participants will be able to walk through the registration process, understand specific details about the day of the Symposium, and how to prepare to present their research.
Connecting career readiness and undergraduate research Accordion Closed
In a 45 minute presentation, participants will learn how their job options and research paths can connect to future possibilities and direction. Participants will be able to explore their individual strengths within their field of study while we work to define research and dispel common myths. This presentation features information on commonly recruited skills derived from research experience and concrete actions students can take to start their path from research to career now.
Writing an abstract Accordion Closed
Participants with any level of abstract writing skills would benefit from this 45 minute presentation on best practices and reminders of how to write their strongest abstract for their research. By explaining the appropriate formatting and content to support their abstract-writing abilities, participants will be able to write an impactful research abstract for their many abstract-writing needs.
Poster design Accordion Closed
In this 45 minute presentation, participants will learn to identify their personal preferences for poster design as well as exploring best practices of poster design shared by other NAU students. This presentation works to identify appropriate formatting and layout that will make your poster stand out and how to make impactful use of limited poster space. Participants will be provided with the tools to create a professional research poster to showcase their research and personal style.
