Graduate tuition waivers


Advanced degree-seeking students have multiple options to fund education

Elevate your career with a graduate degree. NAU helps make your advanced program possible with graduate assistantships (GAs) and tuition waivers.

GAs and waivers pay for all or part of the tuition cost for full-time, degree-seeking graduate students who are in . Contact your academic program or service unit for information about the application process for both types of awards.

Tuition waivers

Waivers can be either academic merit-based or need-based. They are available for resident and non-resident students.

Graduate assistantships

Graduate assistantships provide valuable experience in teaching, research, or service in exchange for a stipend. GAs with an appointment of 10 or more hours per week are considered residents for tuition purposes during the terms of employment.

Full-time GAs

Full-time GAs are available for 20 hours a week of work, and provide a 100 percent tuition waiver, a waiver of the student health insurance premium, and a stipend.

Part-time GAs

Part-time GAs are available for 10 hours a week of work, and provide a 50 percent tuition waiver and a stipend.

NAU “at-large” graduate assistantships

Non-academic graduate assistantships are available through many university offices. Stipend amounts vary based on the office, job duties, and degree.
