Graduate Programs in
Public Health
A Master of Public Health (MPH) degree is a professional degree that prepares students for careers in public health management, program coordination and evaluation, training of health educators and policy development. ÌýGraduates work in local, state, tribal and federal government agencies, health care and clinic settings, non-profit organizations and in research.
Skills gained through an MPH degree focus on the translation and administration of evidence-based health promotion strategies designed to support the health and well-being of individuals and communities through direct services, program implementation and policy development.
At NAU, MPH core coursework covers the following topics:
- Biostatistics
- Epidemiology
- Intervention Mapping
- Advanced Behavior Change Counseling
- Research Methods and Program Evaluation
- Health Policy and Management
- Environmental and Occupational Health
MPH students must select one of the following concentrations and complete the coursework that provides in-depth exposure to this focus:
Academic work outside the classroom includes completion of a graduate project developed by the student in conjunction with advisor(s) and a public health applied practice experience.
Each year, for admission to the program in the following Fall, the priority deadline is January 15th. If a student applies by January 15th, they should expect to hear back by the end of February. If any places in our programs remain after the applications are considered that met the priority deadline then applications that are submitted between January 16th and April 1st may be considered to fill any remaining openings. If a student applies between January 16th to April 1st, they should expect to hear back by the beginning of May. International applicants: Applications submitted after January 15 will not be evaluated for admission, please apply to the next available admission term.
