Where is journalism headed in the digital era? Find out from two keen-eyed participants.
Matt DeLong is the digital projects editor for The Washington Post, where he has worked on many of the paper’s most ambitious reporting project. He is a 2008 graduate of Northern Arizona University. His team at the Post won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for its coverage of surveillance by the National Security Agency. In 2008, he was the only reporter traveling on the McCain campaign plane who wrote for a Web-only publication.
New media guru Dan Gillmor is one of the nation’s preeminent thinkers on where journalism is going in the digital age. He was for more than 10 years a columnist at the San Jose Mercury News, Silicon Valley’s daily newspaper, and wrote a weblog for SiliconValley.com—one of the first by a journalist for a traditional media company. Gillmor blogs for The Guardian, has been an advisor for numerous media start-ups, and teaches digital media literacy and entrepreneurship at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
“The Future of Media” is the School of Communication’s annual lecture and award ceremony dedicated to the memory of Robert R. Eunson, a 1936 graduate of Arizona State Teachers College at Flagstaff, as Northern Arizona University was then known. He went on to a distinguished career as a war correspondent, editor and news executive with The Ƶd Press. When he died in 1975, Eunson was assistant general manager and vice president for broadcast at The Ƶd Press.
This event is sponsored by the School of Communication and The Ƶd Press.
